an integrated approach to global health care

Natural disasters and the pandemic have shown that the link between public health and the ecosystem is inextricable. Efforts to improve health care must also consider environmental well-being for best results. This is exactly the kind of paradigm shift that the University of Nicosia (UNIC) Medical School is pioneering with its A health concept for its online Master of Public Health (MPH) program.

Recognizing that people’s health is interconnected with nature, MPH Online prepares you with the latest knowledge in managing emerging public health challenges, including climate change, armed conflict, migration and pandemics.

“It is only through this A health the recognition that we can fully equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for them to contribute to efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal of ‘good health’,” says Dr. Christiana Demetriou, Program Coordinator and Professor Online MPH Program Assistant.

Dr Demetriou said: “Our curriculum has been carefully designed to cover the main pillars of public health practice and research and is aligned with the UK Faculty of Public Health curriculum, ensuring an education of the highest quality.”

Flexible, world-class education

A new approach to health care education requires new ways of learning. At UNIC, you will have the opportunity to take your courses online at a pioneering distance education university in Europe. UNIC supports its own study programs as well as those of its partners.

The consistent quality of its delivery is why the university is one of the few European universities to have received triple recognition for excellence in online learning. UNIC’s quality in distance learning is recognized by the European Association of Distance Learning Universities (EADTU), the European Foundation for the Quality of Online Learning (EFQUEL), in addition to to be the first university on the continent to be awarded a five-star rating for distance learning by QS Stars, one of the world’s leading university rating agencies.

Simply put, an MPH online advanced degree at UNIC allows you to learn at a globally competitive university with state-of-the-art facilities without sacrificing your professional career. The flexibility of online courses, with the option to choose to study part-time or full-time, further allows you to advance your career in public health, wherever you are.

Even seasoned workers in the industry agree. “Previously, I had worked for more than a decade in the department of public health and epidemiology. However, since I started the MPH program at UNIC, I started loving my profession more than ever,” says student Jemal Yonis. Since starting his program, Yonis has become more confident in analyzing public health issues, and he is even more motivated to continue his studies in the field.

MPH students receive a truly global education, with skills that can be applied anywhere. A unique feature of this program is its international orientation – it is linked to the famous UNIC medical school, with professors, teaching hospitals and students from all over the world. The program has a strong focus on global public health and is constantly revised to respond to current issues affecting different populations, such as refugee and migrant health, health policy reform under economic austerity and emerging diseases.

UNIC was ranked 47th globally in International Outlook, by THE World University Rankings. To further emphasize the international perspective of MPH, the program is also part of the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Masters in Public Health in Disasters alongside the Spanish University of Oviedo and the Swedish Karolinska Institutet, known as one of the best schools of medicine in the world. As a degree awarded in the European Union, the MPH is recognized and accredited worldwide, and graduates of UNIC’s international medical programs have a 99.8% job placement rate after graduation .

Discover new opportunities in public health

As an MPH student, you will receive unparalleled support from day one with direct access to faculty and a personal mentor to guide you through your studies. Christodoulos Monastiriotis, who did his MPH while practicing as a doctor, became familiar with public health procedures, thanks to guidance from the faculty.

“I became familiar with the basic concepts of public health that – even if as a health professional – I had learned incorrectly”, explains the doctor, who graduated in 2021. “I appreciated the convenience to take my courses remotely without a lot of time constraints. All the staff and faculty at the university will make you feel that you are getting a valuable education.

MPH’s flexibility in opening new doors for its students cannot be underestimated. The three-semester online structure includes compulsory modules in the first two semesters, after which students opt for elective courses or a research-oriented route by undertaking a master’s thesis. Starting in fall 2022, students enrolled in the program will be offered a 20% scholarship, making it even more accessible to learners looking to immerse themselves in a world-class education.
