LARGS Academy is to recruit a new social rights officer at the school who will help parents, guardians and students with financial matters.
For the first time, the position has been awarded to Secondary Schools in North Ayrshire and will provide free confidential financial advice to all families and students at the school.
Audrey Ritchie, from the council’s Money Matters team, will offer the free service which will cover everything from applying for benefits to checking a household’s creditworthiness.
Advice will also be given on how to complete a referral to a partner agency for advice on debt, budget or fuel.
Joe Cullinane, leader of North Ayrshire Council, said: “This is a fantastic new initiative and we are proud to support it.
“This is one of the many measures we have put in place to help families and their children.
“Many families do not receive all the financial assistance and benefits to which they are entitled. They may often be intimidated or afraid to ask for help or may be unaware of their rights.
“The rules can be complex, or sometimes they have been wrongly denied. We must do our best to help each person in this situation.
Audrey can be contacted directly on 01294 310498, by text on 0779 907 5426 or by email at [email protected]
Alternatively, people can ask for a recommendation by contacting the school.
