Dallas, Texas, October 12, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Following extensive tornado destruction on its campus in October 2019, Parker University patted Skiles Group, a national lean general contractors and construction management company based in Richardson, Texas, to help it rebuild and add facilities in time for students to return to class by fall 2021.

Parker University new south building opens

Parker University’s new 64,000 square foot park South building provides students with over 25,000 square feet of learning space filled with cutting-edge technological and educational resources. Getting a finished product by fall involved overcoming a series of unique challenges.

From the start, Parker University’s schedule requirements were strict to meet the fall delivery date. Add in a global pandemic, a historic ice storm, flooding, and the replacement of the entire first floor slab due to soil settlement, and the challenges quickly escalated. As a result, Skiles Group has completely re-sequenced construction activities to reach the planned end without delay.

In addition to the tight schedule, Skiles Group had to keep the activity and safety of students, staff and visitors alive while working in the middle of campus around many temporary services. Then, when the COVID-19 pandemic began just months after the tornado, new health protocols were quickly created to maintain safety and lessen the impact of the enormous pressure on workforce planning. work and material. In such a narrow frame and having been subjected to the effects of a large tornado, the existing structure of the south building was laser scanned to ensure the integrity and precise installation of the building components in the reconstructed space and the new space.

ParkerFit offers advanced health and fitness opportunities

Skiles Group was also commissioned to bring the 21,000 square feet of the university ParkerFit gym to live. This campus facility includes the Human Strength and Performance Lab, which empowers students and faculty to become healthier individuals and future practitioners. ParkerFit includes a group fitness studio, cardio area, exercise equipment area, functional fitness area, indoor turf track, Freedom Climber, locker rooms, saunas, flat screen TVs and floodlights, outdoor sports fields and outdoor exercise areas.

The ParkerFit installation was recently awarded a TEXO Distinguished Building Award for interior finishing. TEXO is the largest trade association for the construction industry in Texas.
