During the Virginia gubernatorial debate last week, Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe promised that as governor he would prevent parents from removing sexually explicit books from school libraries because he doesn’t believe “parents should tell schools what to teach ”.
McAuliffe’s contempt for parents who think they should have a say in their children’s education is shared by most “progressives,” as well as some who call themselves conservatives. They believe parents should obediently pay taxes to fund public schools and never question any aspect of the public school curriculum.
The refusal of school officials to obey parents’ wishes extends to the anti-science mask mandates. Mask warrants are not only useless in protecting children from a virus they are unlikely to get sick from or transmit, mandatory mask wearing actually makes children sick! Yet school administrators refuse to follow the science if it means listening to parents instead of so-called experts.
Replacing parental control with government control over education (and other aspects of child rearing) has been a goal of authoritarians since Plato. After all, it is much easier to ensure obedience if someone has been raised to believe that the government is the source of all wisdom and truth, as well as the provider of all the necessities of life.
Unlike an authoritarian society, a free society recognizes that parents have both the responsibility and the right to provide their children with a quality education that reflects the values of the parents. Teachers who use their positions to indoctrinate children into beliefs that contradict the views of parents are the ones who push their boundaries.

Restoring parental control over education should be a priority for all who believe in freedom. If the government can override the wishes of parents in the name of “education” or “protecting the health of the children,” then what area of our lives is immune from government intrusion?
Fortunately, growing dissatisfaction with public schools is leading many parents to try and change school policies. Parents are also responding by looking for alternatives to public schools, including the option most hated by bosses: home schooling.
Unnecessary coronavirus lockdowns and support from teachers’ union officials to keep schools closed have also contributed to the growth of home schooling.
Parents looking for a home schooling program that includes an introduction to the ideas of freedom should consider my home schooling program. My course provides students with a solid education in history, literature, mathematics and science. It also gives students the opportunity to start their own websites and businesses on the Internet. The program is designed to be self-taught, with students helping and learning from each other through online forums.

From the fourth year, students must write at least one essay per week. Students also take a public speaking course.
The program teaches history from a pro-freedom perspective, and the economics section is taught from an Austrian perspective. But, unlike public schools, the curriculum does not compromise the quality of education, distort the facts, or undermine parental authority in the pursuit of an ideological agenda.
Students who use my home schooling program develop a love of learning, study superior communication skills, and gain real-world business experience. They also develop critical thinking skills that will enable them to be successful in any career path they choose.
Parents interested in giving their children a comprehensive home education that includes an introduction to the healthy economy and ideas of freedom can get more information about my program by going to RonPaulCurriculum.com.
