The presentation is aimed at the general public and will offer an interactive tour of the main features of the Library’s website, geared particularly towards new users. An open question-and-answer session follows the presentation. Visitors can join or leave at any time.
Although the basic functionality of the website remains the same as before, users will benefit from a refreshed design and new features:
- Redesigned home page search interface, for easier access to UIC Library collections and CARLI collections in Illinois
- Responsive and accessible user experience designed to support new and experienced users
- New Help Center, offering answers to frequently asked questions about using the library
The tour also includes a preview of some of our redesigned and expanded digital exhibits showcasing the library’s special collections and university archives. This includes the new “Millennium City: Richard M. Daley & Global Chicago” website, which complements Richard M. Daley’s oral history project. The site provides researchers and students with a visually appealing way to explore the collection’s in-depth interviews with the former mayor’s close colleagues, friends, and others who worked with and knew him from 1989. to 2011. Highlights include interviews providing insight into Richard M. Daley’s approach. governance on critical issues during his tenure such as privatization and school selection, community policing, service sector employment policies and social housing reform. The website is an invaluable tool for seasoned scholars interested in understanding the history of Chicago as well as for undergraduates just entering graduate school and actively learning to use archival resources for the first time.
Please invite anyone who might be interested. A recording will be made available at library.uic.edu for those unable to attend.
